How people opt in to texts

Misparked is a parking-report service for private lots, made by High5 Labs. It texts a person only about a report they filed or a job sent to their towing company, and only after they gave their number on one of the screens below. None of these messages are marketing or promotional, and none carry anybody else's content.

1. Confirming a reporter's number

A resident reaches this screen by scanning the QR code on the sign at their property, before their first report. Pressing the button sends one text: a link that confirms the number, with a code in the same message for when the link is opened on another device. This is the screen, as a resident sees it:

Your mobile number

Never shown to the towing company or to the vehicle owner.

Misparked texts this number once, with a link to confirm it. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Your number is not shared with third parties for marketing. Terms · Privacy

2. Two optional texts about a report

After the photo, the last screen before a report is sent carries two boxes. Both start unticked, and each is its own choice. Nothing in this section is sent unless the resident ticks the box for it.

3. The same two, offered again after the report

The page a resident lands on after sending a report offers the same two texts again, as buttons, for anybody who left the boxes unticked. Pressing one is the opt-in; pressing it again turns it back off. Each button carries the same wording as its box:

Yes, Text Me When It's Closed

One text from Misparked when it is all over, telling you what happened. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Your number is not shared with third parties for marketing. Terms · Privacy

Yes, They Can Ask Me

One text from Misparked right away to confirm, then a text each time the towing company asks a question about this report while it is open. They never see your number and you never see theirs. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Your number is not shared with third parties for marketing. Terms · Privacy

Saying yes to questions, from the box or the button, sends one text right away confirming it, once per report:

Misparked: we'll text you if the towing company asks about your open report. Msg freq varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

The text when a report closes is a single message, so it needs no confirmation of its own.

4. Towing companies

A towing company chooses how new jobs reach it, in its own settings after it signs up. Texts are off until somebody at the company switches them on and enters the number themselves. Beside that switch it reads:

Sample: a towing company's settings

With Text message on, Misparked texts this number each new job at your properties, updates on those jobs, and a notice if you reach your monthly maximum. Message frequency varies with reports. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel. Your number is not shared with third parties for marketing. Terms · Privacy

Switching texts on sends one text to that number straight away, confirming it:

Misparked: job texts are on. We text new jobs at your properties and their updates. Msg freq varies. Msg & data rates may apply. HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

What the texts look like

Every message starts with the word Misparked, so it is clear who sent it, and every one is a single text of 160 characters or fewer.

How often

One text each time a number is confirmed. At most one text when a report closes. For a resident who says yes to questions: one text confirming it, then a text each time the towing company asks a question about that report, only while it is open. To a towing company: one text per new job, a text when a reporter cancels a job or answers the company's question, and at most one a month if it reaches the monthly maximum it set. Message and data rates may apply.

Stopping, and getting help

Every message ends by saying how to stop. Reply STOP to any of them and no more texts go to that number. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, OPT OUT and REVOKE work the same way, and so does asking in plain words, like "please stop texting me" or "remove me". The reply is:

Misparked: you are unsubscribed and will get no more texts from this number. Reply START to resubscribe.

Reply START to undo it:

Misparked: you are resubscribed to the texts you asked for. Msg freq varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

START only undoes a STOP. A towing company's job texts come back on with it only if they were on when its number said STOP. Otherwise they stay off, because job texts are switched on only in the company's own settings, and the reply says so:

Misparked: job texts stay off. Your company switches them on in its Misparked Settings, not by text. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

Reply HELP for help. The reply is:

Misparked: parking reports for private lots, by High5 Labs. Help: support@misparked.com or misparked.com. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel.

Or email support@misparked.com.

The number itself

A phone number given to Misparked is used for the messages above and to weigh the reports that come from it. It is not shown to the towing company or to the vehicle owner, and mobile information is not sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. The rest is in the privacy policy.
